At 1449 hours the New Castle County Communications Center alerted Station 20 for a Commercial Vehicle Fire. Engine 205 made the response under the command of Fire Fighter / EMT Mike Emmell. Upon arrival Engine 205 reported a tractor trailer fully involved and immediately requested an additional engine. With the heavy fuel load command requested the 3000 gallon tanker from the DRBA and a tanker and foam unit from the Delaware Air National Guard (Station 33). Engine 22 responded to the scene and assisted with suppression and Engine 285 responded and was given the hydrant assignment. Squrt 20 made the response and upon arrival set up for a master stream operation with Engine 285 providing the supply line. With the supply line established and the bulk of the fire knocked down crews continued to work separating the material and utilizing hand lines. Command requested a BLS to stand-by due to the weather conditions. DNREC was notified due to fuel and other fluids draining into the storm water drainage ditch and was flowing towards the Delaware River. The DRBA Maintenance crews worked to initially stop the flow of the contaminates and requested assistance for containment. Hazmat 30 responded to assist and was able to stop the flow of the contaminates before they reached the Delaware River. Crews operated for over 3 hours and were made available as they became ready to return to service. Units on scene Engine 205, Squrt 20, Rescue 20, Command 20, Engine 222, Engine 285, DANG Engine 333, Hazmat 30, Ambulance A-16, Traffic Unit 28, DRBA Maintenance Tanker Support, DRBA PD, and, DNREC. Salem County Engine 7-2 covered Station 20 during this incident and responded to the scene to assist in placing units back in service.
