State Braces for Hanna - Delaware

With the arrival of Tropical Storm Hanna the New Castle County Chiefs and the New Castle County Communications Division has set a Radio Operations Contingency Plan. All EMS units are to remain on and operate on EMSOPS-1. Station 20 apparatus will switch radios to TAC-5 for the duration of the storm. TAC-3 will remain available for normal traffic and will be utilized when an event or incident becomes a working alarm assignment. Below info is courtesy of Delawareonline.com Tropical Storm Hanna churned toward Delaware this morning, bringing with it the threat of heavy rain, high wind and tidal flooding throughout the afternoon and evening. Although the big storm’s center was expected to track just southeast of Fenwick Island, weather officials warned that the entire state will feel the brunt . National Weather Service officials were forecasting as much as 7 inches of rain through today and Sunday for New Castle County, with more than 6 inches in southern areas and potentially high winds statewide. Gusts were expected to peak at 45 mph or more between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday as the storm crossed the area from southwest to northeast, with sustained winds near 40 mph likely in some areas. Tropical storm-force winds were expected to extend as much as 290 miles from the storm’s center.
