At 1028 hrs the Communications Center alerted Station 20, Engine 22, Ladder 18, Rescue 28, & Engine 32 for a house fire in the area of Center St. and New Castle Ave. Engine 20-5 went enroute at 1032 hrs. and given information by the Communications Center that police were onscene reporting a smoke condition in the house and also that this residence was known to have squatters. Upon arrival of 20-5 they found a 1 story residential dwelling with smoke showing. Crews deployed the initial hand line and made attempt to enter through the front door. Crews made it to the front door and the fire hade broken through the roof. The engine officer ordered the crew out of the house and advised the units responding that they would be moving to an exterior attack. Upon the arrival of additional units a supply line was established, additional hand lines deployed, and a deck gun placed in service. The bulk of the fire was knocked down and crews searched the residence with negative results. The scene was placed under control at 1141 hrs. and units cleared the scene at 1242 hrs.
