House Fire - 900 block of Delaware Street
Sunday, February 18, 2007
At 1737 hours,Good Will Fire was dispatched to 900 Delaware St. for a unknown structual fire. Fireboard started receiving calls from DSP and locals that fire and smoke were visible. Upon arrival of 183, a few minutes later, a working alarm assignment was sounded. This brought Holloway Terrace, Minquadale, and Wilmington Manor on the first alarm with Five Points and Minquas on the upgrade. As a frozen hydrant wasn’t enough, there were unconfirmed reports of subjects possibly still inside. A large diameter line was stretched across Delaware street, about 800’ away. Crews entered the structure and found multiple holes in the floors, with heavy fire throughout.
A 2nd alarm assignment was sounded at 1816 hours, which brought Belvedere, Minquas, Pennsville (NJ), and Christiana. After about 50 minutes, the withdrawal alarm was sounded for all firefighters to evacuate the structure. A defensive mode was established with multiple master streams placed in service to control the fire. The origin of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
